Claire Wittman is a playwright, dramaturg, and educator based in Virginia. She received her MFA in Playwriting from the Hollins University Playwright's Lab and her MFA and MLitt in Shakespeare in Performance from Mary Baldwin University. Claire loves creating theatre, especially for young actors and audiences, taking walks while listening to podcasts, and spending time with her cat Juliet and husband Patrick. Claire's play Carmilla has been chosen by Richmond Triangle Players for development through the So.Queer playwriting initiative, beginning with a staged reading in October 2026.
Firehouse Theatre continues into a new season of developmental readings and workshops, including the John Mitchell Jr. Project, Josh Franklin's The Consoling Mechanism, and a new musical based on the life of Gladys Bentley.
Claire will be playing Nina in a new translation of The Seagull at the Hamner Threatre in the spring of 2027.
