Biography:
Claire Wittman is a playwright, dramaturg, and educator based in Virginia. She received her MFA in Playwriting from the Hollins University  Playwright's Lab and her MFA and MLitt in Shakespeare in Performance from Mary Baldwin University. Claire loves creating theatre for young actors and audiences, taking walks while listening to podcasts, and spending time with her cat Juliet and husband Patrick. Claire is very honored to serve as the dramaturg for Claire F. Martin's world premiere Pride and Prejudice, produced by Belle Esprit Theatre Collective for the Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern in May 2025.

For this year's Richmond Shakespeare summer festival, Claire will perform in Cyrano de Bergerac and direct the Festival Young Company green show.

There's no place for new plays quite like Richmond's Firehouse Theatre! Claire is overjoyed to serve as the resident dramaturg for their First Drafts and Bagels and Pop-Up Premiere series, supporting local and national playwrights in their development process.
